The existing dwelling and outbuilding are set within the historical Wymondham Conservation Area on the edge of the grounds of Wymondham Abbey.
The existing vernacular dwelling was in much need of rationalising and developing to make it function as a high quality residence.
The proposals included replacing a poor quality, existing lean-to roof and existing uPVC conservatory with a new extension to include a garden room, kitchen, first floor bedroom, a new entrance side porch and utility extension and minor fenestration alterations along with converting and extending the existing outbuilding to create a double garage.
DFAL sought to address the impact of the proposals in relation to the existing building form, the surrounding Church Street architecture and the impact the proposals would have on the Abbey.
The design incorporates a large, glazed oak frame feature which gives views across the Abbey grounds and helps to separate the form and mass of the extension from the existing house.
