The Design Concept was very much developed around 'Form Followed Function'. The layout of the dwelling was designed and orientated around the path of the sun. All habitable rooms incorporate South and West-facing glazing to maximize daylight and capture solar gains.
The North and East elevations consist of smaller vertical slot windows to minimize heat loss. Thermal mass concrete walls are situated behind South and West-facing glazing to act as a thermal store.
Additionally a glazed “atrium-like” structure hovers above the center of the dwelling dispersing further solar gains and daylight throughout the open plan living area.
Further sustainable features include a sedum green roof, photovoltaic panels and an air source heat pump.
